Dissociation often includes the ability to distance oneself from one's bodily sensations. At times this can become so strong that it is numbing. There may also be notable instance of automated or programmed reactions, or the sensation of acting without conscious volition.
The comination of these sensations and perceptions may result in a multiple describing themselves as feeling mechanical or robotic. In some cases this goes as far as having mechanical or robotic persons in their head (cf Erin of Crisses)
