Hi, gloomurai,

You might also want to check out the article [Earworms]]. We've been talking about our Music Layer New for decades. Also check out ATasteOfMultiplicity? because we use the earworm idea as a boost to explain dissociative experiences to singular folks.

I don't know whether this is a derealization experience, or a hidden fragment or headmate. I do know the "earworm" or music layer (for our system) will respond to us externally playing the song it seems to be "itching" to hear. Sometimes the song is just a "want to hear this" or a "This seems appropriate to these circumstances" and occasionally the more intrusive earworm experience "overwrites" lyrics of a known song with lyrics appropriate to the situation -- which I think some autistic people also do? Don't quote me on that last one…many of the autsitic folks I know are also plural. So much mixed up brain stuff… oh another interesting thing to add to the mix is toxic shame? messages from our past that get stuck in our head. Though the earworm doesn't appear to be shame-based, it might be more at self-soothing sometimes? Like "I want to hear this song, I need this vibe" or "I have a brain itch for this" -- no clue… Might be interesting to look into whether anyone's done research on earworms and if anyone's made the connection to dissociative experiences & earworms outside anecdotes in the community.

Thanks for the comment! : )
