No, we haven't seen Mr. Robot (but it's not just on Amazon Prime). However, as to your question — yes, sometimes plurals percieve their insiders as being outside their body. It's part of being dissociated — think out of body experiences. Sometimes "3 inches to the left" is as grounded as we can be (due to chronic pain) — and we have distinct trauma memories where we were definitely more than 3 inches outside our body (sometimes trauma memories are remembered from a 3rd person perspective, like floating in the room and watching what's going on as a spectator).

So, yeah, it's possible to perceive insiders as being outside — it's not "delusional" but can sometimes lead to misdiagnoses as being psychotic. There's nothing wrong with those diagnoses, it's just not what's going on. It's all about dissociation, depersonalization, derealization, etc.

We actually use this as a feature sometimes. We will picture a bunch of us surrounding our body and supporting it. We may sleep in our bed in a big cuddle pile. We are also a trained Reiki practitioner where distance healing work uses out of body travel at times, and have been doing out of body journey work most of our life (even as kids we had that figured out). Delusion or skill? What does it matter if it's a positive experience and non-distressing? So the out of body thing can be good — it's a protective mechanism when there's something really bad going on, and it can also be a positive mechanism to self-soothe, or in the case of Reiki to deliver help or healing to others. : ) Hope that helps answer the question.
